Learn About Eesha's World
Program Description: Eesha’s World is a unique concept for a multi-cultural childrn's after school program.
The main learning objectives of the Eesha’s World program were as follows:
Building Self Confidence
Learning choreography
Memorizing Lyrics and Script Lines
Increasing Self Control
Refining Eye and Hand Coordination
Building on Their Individual Talents
A unique aspect of Eesha’s World was that all of the parents stay involved. They attended and participated in all of the rehearsals and the Saturday fieldtrips. This was a family program as well as an after school program.
Why Music? Who doesn’t love music? Certainly there are some of us, but for the most part music is a big part of our lives. Whether it’s the music that we listen to on the way to work, while we workout, or the music we hear in a symphony or film, it can bring up our moods, tell us a story or even bring us down. Music has touched cultures all over the world since very early times in human history. Creating, singing and dancing to music can help children express themselves and improve their self-esteem through individual development. The need to reduce stress is not just an adult issue. Another benefit to including original music written by TBOC as a core component of our program is the ability for children to escape to a place of beats and voices and tempos that provides them with an opportunity to reduce their stress and fill them with joy.
Program Design
Eesha’s World was designed by the CEO of Taken Back Our Community Tai Campbell with experienced Artistic Directors. In every lesson we reiterate our core principles of balance in mind, body and spirit. We work to end bullying or negative language or action of any kind through continuous dialog and conversation with the children. All of our music has a positive message and is oriented toward community building.
Eesha’s World is built on a unique concept for a multi-cultural kid’s after school program. The story of this world is that Eesha, in the archetype of a leader is a bright, engaging, talented child that has many friends in the ‘children’s’ world and many friends in the ‘adult’ world. She is effortlessly able to share the insights and lessons back and forth between the two worlds leading to greater understanding and stronger community building between the generations. The story of Eesha is used as an example to the children of what to aspire to as they express their talent and find their own roles in our community.
A child that participates in Eesha’s World will learn from the interactions with the other children and our talented instructors about poise, acting, dancing, singing, teamwork, life skills, gymnastics, and how to play to the camera. All children will learn to their skill level and spread the positive message of community building that is the core of Taken Back Our Communities mission. After they learn several songs and chorography they get the opportunity to go out into the community and perform. We also video tape them so they can see themselves and learn how to improve.
Eesha’s World was a twelve week program with two hour sessions twice a week from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with up to 40 children ranging in age from five to thirteen. Nutritious snacks and bottled water are provided at the break. Every Saturday there was fieldtrip to a local business or community activity. The program has performed at several Montgomery County events.
The Saturday fieldtrips gave the children opportunities for fun events such as visiting a local gymnastics studio and to experience learning opportunities that let them perform live at locations such as the National Children’s Hospital or other community outreach activities. This was a blend of experiential learning where children both have fun and give back to their community.
All parents were encouraged to attend every session as a mock audience and come to all fieldtrips.
